A Craftacular Success!!

by Linda Zeng

Thank you everyone for coming over to the T. Kahres Jewelry booth at Craftacular 2009 last week!!! The show was so much fun, and super packed with crafty folks and folks who need to shop for presents. The line to get into the show was around the block! For hours! Our sponsor, Bust Magazine, diligently supplied complimentary hot coffee to those standing in the cold December morning.
Above is a picture of our set-up that day. Basically our props were faux moss and snake skin table runners, with pale cedar wood blocks. It was awesome.

just some baubles we like

Since t. kahres jewelry has been a part of Etsy, a lot of time has been spent on browsing for trinkets from fellow etsiers. Here are some fantastic pieces found, from gur kimel/24K gold walnut necklace; from lucky me beads/ personalized silhouette pendants:

And then some more stuff from the web, this fish necklace is from plainobjects.com, the site creator is Judy Aldridge, mother of Jane Aldridge, the 17-year-old shoe/fashion wunderkind blogger, aka Sea of Shoes:

And last but not least, for those who are watching their carbs, loaf-ers from dadadastudio.eu

Enjoy!

Swede Things

Teresa's back from a trip to Sweden! Here are some photos, it's a mix of nature, man-made, abstract and concrete.

I loooove the lake view above. It's so peaceful, and the colors are so cozily, hazily fall.
Here are some of our favorite Swedish movies

Let the Right One In-the best vampire movie ever. Also, read the book of the same title. It's not your usual vampire romance. In fact, not sure if it is even a love story. If you've seen the movie, any thoughts?

My Life as a Dog-it's so poignant, funny and sad, about a boy's coming of age amidst tragedy. the worst happens early on, and the rest of the film is a healing process for him, surrounded by good-hearted adults. The young actors are amazing here.

Believe it or not, Halloween is right around the corner...again! Time goes by quick! In fact, it was almost 20 years ago that Johnny Depp became Edward Scissorhands in that magical Tim Burton film, so if you are thinking of dressing up for All Hallows' Eve- here are some inspirations, including a makeup tutorial to recreate an uncanny resemblance to Edward Scissorhands. Enjoy! And be sure to check out tkahres.etsy.com to get jewels that complete any costume, any day!

This week is especially autumnal in NYC. The coats get heavier as days get shorter. It's only been a week into fall, and already one's nostalgic about heat waves of the summer past. How do you keep summer days from drifting away? With colors, of course. Here are some of Teresa's signature enamel pieces, all vibrant hues of red, pale yellow, deep cobalt, and sea green. They were brilliantly captured on a clear summer day on the seaside town of Montauk, NY. The photographer is Margaret Danek Vasquéz, paper design extraordinaire and founder of Tiger & Jones stationery whose clients include The Chateau Marmont, Conde Nast, and Will Ferrell. Her mission is to "restore the art in the art of letter writing."

Enjoy these pictures of t. kahres jewelry and check back next week...

Georgia O'Keeffe on Lifetime

Regardless of what you think of Lifetime overall as a TV channel, try to catch the encore of Georgia O'Keeffe tonight at 9pm. I will watch it because it would be interesting to watch what Lifetime (hehe, again) would do with this iconic artist's life, and because Jeremy Irons is in it! Seriously, consider investing 11 hours in that gem of a series, Brideshead Revisited (1981). (bn.com)
Anyway, I was browsing art.com recently for a laptop wallpaper, and came across one of my favorite paintings by the great artist, Oriental Poppies, 1928. It just overwhelms with a sense of, among other things, exuberance, life, sensuality, and depth. So I thought, what does this remind me of? Teresa's enamel poppy earrings. I mean, if I wanted to wear art, this would be the way to go.

Enamel & Nature

This is one of six gold rings discovered in Cyprus. They are the earliest known examples of enamel (photo: ganoksin.com)

Faberge eggs feature enamel work as its essential element. Love the pansies on the egg , don't you? (photo: parisbreakfasts.blogspot.com)

Teresa's love of nature has inspired her own line of exquisite enamel jewelry, wearable pieces of art, actually. Her shamrock hued earrings, left, combine the mastery of enamel work with subtle representations of nature.
